Artist Statement:
I began working
with polymer clay in the spring of 1992; my oldest
daughter wanted to try making and selling something
at a local craft fair. We decided to make our own
beads out of the clay and make some unique jewelry.
Well we made enough to cover our costs and have
lunch. But not much more. Soon she was off trying
other medium but I was hooked.
I laughingly blame my Mom, as she never let me play
with clay because it was tooooo messy. She hates
messes. I love the range of applications and
versatility that it has brought to my artistry.
I use a variety of techniques, such as cane making,
(after the Italian glass canes called Mollifiore)
also their is a wonderful layering and cutting
technique called naku game' that is a Japanese metal
smith tradition.
